  1. 2)Mrs . Thibault is described to be like Calvin, timid , lack of knowledge and speak with bad grammar which shows the lack of guidance for Calvin to be raised properly and with a role model to follow for he says his mother is always home. . Ms. Harp is described as beautiful as a model and the way her apartment was described shows she is self centered, conceited and she claims to be better than everyone else leaving little Reggie to be alone without the proper attention of a mother least of all a father the importance of this is that it shows that despite the parents features they are both victims of their neighborhood .
    3) the reason Jesse swallows the worm is because of the Mexican tradition which claims that it's like swallowing death , it's a form of goodluck he swallows it because he is not scared of death he says that he has tasted death before .

  2. 2)Mrs.Thibault is shy, timid, keeps to herself just like calvin, bad grammer, and aging while Mrs.Harp is deacribed as a beautiful women, lacks compassion for the death of her son, self centered as her apartment walls are littered with pitures of herself nothing to show a man lives there, she's forgotten, no one is aware of her she believes to be better than all the rest
3)The worm represents death, jesse has been face to face with death itself so him swallowing the worm shows he doesnt fear death at all, he's had a taste of it and he doesnt car if he tastes it once more

  3. 2) Both women have kids dealing with the streets, but the differences between them are Mrs.Thibault is an indoor gal she is a small woman, has thin arms, isn't use to brightness and on the other hand Mrs. Harp is a beautiful woman, who was Miss Alabama,light-skinned,has good hair and is a "nice lady" so Mrs. Thibault said but once you got to her apartment she only had pictures of herself. It doesn't matter how the personality is viewed just that they have the same thing in common which is living in a bad neighborhood and probably Mrs. Harp didn't want to be reminded of what she has that's why she has no pictures of no one else. Differences matter because their children aren't like them and both ladies deserve better than what they have.

3)Jesse swallowed the worm because he was drunk but at the same time he thought about the Mexican tradition and saying the worm is death but that really didn't matter to him because he had already tasted death once and it had something to do with a tape he kept hearing over and over again.

  5. 2) The major difference between Mrs. Thibault and Mrs. Harp is that Mrs. Thibault is a small woman, stunned by brightness, looks like her son Calvin, and has trouble with her grammer and with Mrs. Harp well she is a beautiful lady, nice, light skinned and has good hair real straight she could of been Miss America. These differences might indicate the way their sons behavior is.
    3) Jesse swallows the worm because in the mexican tradition it stands for swallowing death and jesse already face death before and he wasnt scared to face it again and thats why he swallows the worm.

  6. 1) The phrase "ballets roses" originated from two cases, one in France in 1959s, the other in Belgium in the year 1970. The cases refer to orgies organized by adults, at the expense of underage girls. During the war, there was a lot of sketchy business going on under the law, and the ballet roses and blue ballets where just a start.

2)The major differences between Mrs. Thibault and Mrs. Harp is that Mrs. Thibault is a timorous lady with hardly any experience from the world, who is wary and reluctant to life , while Mrs Harp is the face of what a beautiful women is. She is breathtaking and with a little effort, could of crowned herself as Miss America. These differences are significant because might personalities are genetic, so Mrs . Thibault is more like Calvin, who has a lack of knowledge and is slightly illiterate.

    3) There is Mexican tradition for swallowing the "worm" and it seems that Jesse just wanted to part take in something that he was raised around, but to get analogical, he was swallowing death because that's what the worm signifies.

  7. 2) Mrs.Thibault and Calvin resemble one another. She is a small woman who lives in a small home and is rarely exposed to light. The way Vea describes Mrs.Thibault home makes her seem as a hoarder and a collector who loves antiques. She also seems to be illiterate and so is her son.Mrs.Harp is a gold digging, pageant winning, self absorbed woman who only favors the nice things in life. She does not like living in the projects and believes she deserves more in life. Mrs. Harp does not own one memorable item of her deceased son she rather shows off her accomplishtments. The differences matter because it shows how Mrs.Thibault cherishes being alive rather than how Mrs.Harp cherishes materialistic things.

3)Jesse swallows the worm because it is a Mexican tradition. After swallowing the worm he realized it was not important because he had tasted death before. The significance of swallowing the worm is to taste death.

  8. 2) Mrs.Thibault and Calvin resemble each other in more ways than one.She is a small lady who resides in a small home and she rarely obtains sun light. The way Mrs. Thibault is mention she as made to be a pack rat or hoarder in some sort. .Mrs. Harp is a pageant queen who is self centered and only wants the finer things in life. The differences matter to them because it portrays how Mrs. Thibault treasures the small things in life while Mrs. Harper chooses to be materialistic.

3)Jesse swallows the worm due to the Mexican tradition. In the end to Jesse he realized after swallowing it didn‘t matter to him since he had already face death before. The importance of swallowing the worm is to have a taste of death.

  9. 2) Mrs. thibalt is a bashful person wich implies that her shyness is displayed as an awkward behavior and embarrassed timidity because of her background and in the place that she lives in. Mrs. Harp is a eatiful woman and like most beatful woman they only care about themselves. she only cares about the material life, that's why she doesnt even show much care for the death of reggie. this shows that reggie was how he was because he had no attention from his mom, on the other hand calvin was how he was because of the bad influences that he had and because he had no education.

    3) Jesse swallows the worm because he once mentioned that he hated death, that he wasnt afraid of it but that he hated it.the worm was a symbol of death and by eating it, he shows that he was superior than death and to get a taste death because he had already seen death.

  10. 2)Mrs. Thibault is describe as an small woman, thin arms, and timid. Mrs. Harp is describe as beautiful women and the way her apartment was described shows she perhaps is conceited not even compassionate for the death of Reggie. The differences matter because it shows how Mrs. Thibault cares about her life more, meaning life for her is more important then money or anything else while Mrs. Harp shows to be materialistic.

3)Jesse swallows the worm because of a “Mexican Tradition”. A clear symbol for a taste of death its like saying if he went to the greek god Hades tomb and came back alive. But, then again he had tasted death in the past before.

  11. 2)Mrs. Thinault is a shy person that is cut out from the world she's more of a indoor type of person but cares for her son, Calvin, and only wants the best for him. Mrs. Harp is conceited and doesnt care about her son, Reggie. If both Mrs. Thinault and Mrs. Harp acted differently with their sons their sons would of turn out differently.
3)Jesse swallows the worm because it's a Mexican traditon. It shows that he does not fear death because he faced it already.

  12. 2)Mrs.Thibault was a small woman who was quiet and didn't speak perfect English. She had photos of her children, she cared about her children. Mrs.Harp was beautiful, a former pageant queen, and vain. Her house was full of things from her past glory days, there wasn't anything related to little Reggie. Mrs.Thibault cared more for her family while Mrs.Harp cared only for her past glory days.

3)The point of eating the worm is to taste death while still alive. Jesse ate the worm when he realized he has tasted death before.

  13. 2)The differences between Mrs. Thibault and Ms. Harp is that Mrs. Thibault is weak, has lack of knowledge, has dark eyes, is very small/ thin, she looked just like Calvin on the other hand Mrs. Harp is described as beautiful, sharp utterly amazing, she was a model back in her days. These differences indicate that no matter how good or bad their past was they both ended up in the same horrible community. These differences matter because it shows that Mrs. Thibault cares about her child while Ms. Harp does not she is stuck in the past while her child is dead, nothing matters to her but her fantastic past.
    3) At the end of the chapter Jesse swallows the worm because it’s a Mexican tradition that means to swallow “death”. This is important to Jesse because he wanted to have a taste of death at that very moment since he had been facing death ever since Vietnam.

  14. 2) Mrs. Thibault has a resemblence with her son Calvin. She is a small, nice, and timid women who lives in a small house with not much material things. She has trouble with her grammar and loves her son. She's an indoor person and doesn't get that much light. Mrs. Harp is a beautiful women that just cares about her self and doesn't really care about her son Reggie. Her apartment is full of pictures of her; she's conceited. It matters because the way they live and act demonstrates how these mothers were; how they were with their sons and how much they cared and how their sons turn out to be because of that.

    3) Jesse swallows the worm because it's a Mexican Tradition, he's swallowing death. It shows that he's not scared of death and that he has faced death already.

  15. 2.)Mrs.Thibault and Mrs.Harp are on opposite ends. Mrs.Thibailt is a small and thin woman who, except for her eyes, Calvin looked just like. She is a prisoner of her dark apartment and sleeps most of the time. She uses poor grammer and has very few possesions in her home. Mrs.Harp has long straight hair and was Miss Alabama. Her apartment is covered in professional photographs of herself. She is a pretty woman with a pretty apartment who seems to not care much for the death of her son Reggie. Their personalities and the way they are reflect their home and where they come from. This is important because this is what Calvin and Reggie grew up seeing and is in a way a base for their actions they took.

3.) Jesse swallowed the pink worm because it was taught to be a Mexican tradition. Its said that its good luck to swallow death and thats what the worm represented, death. He is questioning his act though because he had tasted death before.

  16. 2) Mrs. Thibault seems to care more about her son Calvin than Mrs. Harp caring about her son Little Reggie. Mrs. Thibault is a small woman that looked almost as if she was blind and in the other hand, Mrs. Harp was a young woman that cared more about herself and her appearance. Mrs. Thibault defends her son and accuses Little Reggie, while Mrs. Harp doesn’t blame or defend her son, she doesn’t want to talk about him at all. Mrs. Harp therefore owns more possessions and lives in a more luxurious home than Mrs. Thibault does. These two differences might indicate that Mrs. Harp had a better career than Mrs. Thibault but eventually they both ended in the same place, both surrounded in a place where they don’t want to live but have no choice. These difference matter because they show what background Little Reggie and Calvin come from. Calvin comes from a family that cares more about him while Little Reggie comes from a home where they rarely care about him, and this could signify who committed the crime and their behavior.

    3) Jesse swallows the worm because of the situation he is going though. He swallowed it because so many things were going through his head about the tape. The importance of the worm is that it resembles death or craziness which is a side effect that drinking does, but at that point Jesse didn’t care about anything.

  17. 2.The differences between Mrs . thibalt and Ms. Harp are the Mrs. Thibalt is a described as a small , shy lady with bad grammar, she isn’t very educated. She sounds like those old women who are alone in their home all the time she also isn’t really into the finer things in life which kind of reflects on why Calvin is the way that he is. While Ms. Harp is quite the opposite she is described as beautiful, self centered and she doesn’t really seem to show affection towards her son. This is important because it’s showing us how no matter what background we come from we are the same and it also gives us background on why Reggie and Calvin act that way.
3.The point of jesse swallowing the worm is to "get a taste of death" which shows that he isnt scared of death, this idea comes from a Mexican tradition.

  18. 2.Ms. Harp is described as a self centered woman that is very pretty and she knows it. She thinks she deserves everything because she is beautiful. Ms Thibault is the opposite, she is uneducated which shows in the way she talks. She is also very shy. This is important because it shows how both Calvin and Reggie were raised and it gives some perspective as to why they are the way they are. Calvin is mainly surrounded by his mother so his surroundings affected his personality. Reggie was given no attention so he had to find it somewhere else.
    3. Jesse swallows the worm because it is a form of good luck according to Mexican tradition. It is significant because it shows how much he wants to put on a show for everyone else that he isn’t afraid of death.

  19. 2. The difference between Mrs.Thibault and Mrs. Harp is that Mrs. Thibault is a small, thin, shy and uneducated woman. Also she's not really social with the outside world. It seems like she cares more about her son Calvin and blames Little Reggie for the murder. Since she's not well educated that demonstrates the reason for Calvin's lack of knowledge and their lives in Tourette's. However, Mrs Harp is a beautiful, model-like, and conceited woman. She seems to be a self-centered person who doesn't care about her son Little Reggie. Instead she tends to avoid any subject pertaining to him. She also lives in luxury and her past life was full of excitement. The differences indicate that both Calvin and Little Reggie were raised in a bad neighborhoods and are illiterate.

    3. The reason why Jesse swallowed the worm at the end of the chapter is because in his Mexican tradition it refers to swallowing death. Therefore, he swallowed it since he had already tasted death and wasn't afraid of facing it once more.

  20. 2) Mrs.Thibault is the mother of Calvin, and is a very shy, quiet, and a very small women who gives the impression that she's always indoors. She likes to talk about her son and claims that Calvin would never kill anybody. Mrs.Harp is the mother of the little Reggie who brags about her past life as a beauty pageant contestant who is a pretty women, with light skinned and straight hair and dosen't like to talk about little Reggie.

    3) It's good to swallow death, and in the mexican tradition it's goodluck to swallow the worm because it symbolizes death, but to Jesse the worm did not have that awful taste because he had tasted death before in the Vietnam war.

  21. 2. Mrs. Thibault is not a social person, she isn't very educated so her grammar is bad. She is shy and quiet, she isn't very materialistic. She doesn't think that her son killed anybody so she blames Reggie for the murder. On the other hand Mrs. Harp is described as a beautiful, she is self centered and she doesn't really seem to care about her son little Reggie. These differences show the the back round of Calvin and little Reggie, which matter because it shows why the two of them are the way they are.

    3. He swallowed the worm because its a mexican tradition that represents the swallowing of death. He has already faced death and isn't scared of it so thats why he swallows the worm.

  23. 2.Differences between both women are they are total opposites of each other. Mrs.thibault is a sweet lady, she's Calvin's mother and very fond of her son Calvin. She's not materialistic and not very keen on her appearance. With her personality being that of a nice lady nd loving towards her son Calvin that reflects the way Calvin is he's a reflection of his mother. On the other hand Ms.Harp is the opposite of Ms.Thibault, Ms.harp is very materialistic she worries of her appearance nd shows little concern over her son little Reggie. With little Reggie not having that attention at home nd his mother Ms.harp just looking out for her self, little Reggie did the same.
    3. Jesse swallowed the worm because it represented something that was once alive nd with him eating it it was swallowing life, ending a life something he had done, experienced before.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 2) The difference between Mrs. Thibault and Mrs. Harp is that Mrs. Thibault is a small women she is also weak has some type of knowledge but not as much and Mrs. Harp is nice, sweet, kind, and also beautiful. This are some differences what they have and they matter because it shows how they were raise.
3)Jesse swallowed the worm because it a Mexican tradition that shows that he isnt scared of death

    ReplyDelete
  25. 2 The difference between Mrs. Thibault and Mrs. Harp is that Harp is a beautiful woman who doesnt seem to be shy at all. She demonstrates to be self centered and doesnt care much about her son Little Reggie, in fact she avoids any conversation that has to do with him. Mrs. Thibault on the contrary is a small shy woman who isnt educated. She really doesnt like to associate with the outside world, all she cares about is her son Calvin. she also lives i a bad neighborhood and this is important to know because maybe the way Little Reggie and Calvin were raised had alot to do with the choices or decicions that they took in their life.

    3) At the end of the chapter it talks about how Jesse swallows a worm, and he does this because it is a Mexican Tradition that meant to swallow death. This was very important to Jesse because as he swallowed the worm it demonstrated that he wasnt scared of death because he had been facing death ever since he was in Vietnam, and that in fact he wanted to have a taste of it
