Period 2: WEEK ONE

For Act Three, Scene One
Respond to ONE of the following two options no later than Sunday, December 27th.

(1) Describe the final monologue that Caesar recites before he is stabbed. (From "I could be well moved, if I were as you; If I could pray to move ..." Until: "That I was constant Cimber should be banished, And constant do remain to keep him so.") How does he go to meet his death? What does it show about his character?

(2) How does Antony react to Caesar's death? How do we know that Antony does not truly side with or support the conspirators?

  1. Act 3,scene 1 (pg 77,lines 254-275)

Here Antony is plaeding pardon to ceasars body, because he is agreeing with brutus and the others to give his body to the market nd to say that e doesnt knoe anythin about Ceasar's death. While he takes the body he talks to the body nd wishes that a curse would fall on men, that will then lead to burdens in all italy. Also He knoes that ceasar will come and get revenge alongside with Ate (THE GOD OF REVENGE). A monarch will then give tha signa for destruction. I think that he feels angry nd revenefull for brutus and cassius but is forced so its hard for him to betray his father.

  2. Congratulations Dennis! on being the first person in the class to reponsd; good for you. Question about your post: Why do you say "betray his father"? Antony speaks figuratively here, not literally; just be clear on that.

  3. Caesar goes to meet his death by simply going to the Capitol. Its this simple trap where everyone knows he'll have to go without backing out.Personally, I think this shows alot about his character, in a way being stubborn.Because even though his wife had this horible dream, He got convinced by someone else to go to the Capitol and take care of buisness.

  4. Act three scene 1 is all about how brutus and cassius kill caesar and antony the friend of caesar allies wit them and take caesars body to the maket. Antony doesnt really want to do this but he is obligated to by brutus. Antony on his way to tha market wit caesars body says that hes sorry ,and that he doesnt want to do this. He hopes that a curse will fall on all men. Antony knows that caesar will come back and get revenge along side "ATE" (the god of revenge) and that a monarch will then give tha signal for total destruction between all of itally and the people who betrayed ceaser.

  5. How does Anthony react to Caesar death? How do we know that Anthony does not truly side with or support the conspirators? Anthony reacts to Caesar death is that he was very sad, like he was really close to Caesar, and it seems like he was very close to Caesar, and he probally thought what happened to Caesar shouldn't have happened because Caesar wasn't a bad person he just needed to get his priorities right. And you never know Anthony was probally on the conspirators because it seemed like he was guilty because he probally had something to do with Caesar death.

  6. How does Antony react to Caesar death? How do we know that Anthony does not truly side with or support the conspirators? Antony reacts to Caesar death,by trying to convince Brutus and them to kill him as they did Caesar.Antony was very close to Caesar and his death came to him in a horrible way. I don't think Antony was with the conspirators the way he reacted to Caesar death, but then again it could have been a act this whole time it kind of seemed like he was a part of it.

  7. prompt 2) How does Antony react to Caesar's death?
In Act 3 Scene 1 the conspirators murder Ceasar, which causes alot of emotions and thoughts.
After Caesar was murdered Antony left the Capitol in shock. He could not believe what had just happened. I don't think Antony knew what to feel. First he was a little nervoous and maybe even scared because he didnt know if another murder was planned or if he was next to die. Antony was also extremely sad about Caesar's death because he stated "there is no hour so fit as Ceasars'death's hoour" meaning the best time for Antony to die was with Caesar. However,Antony goes and makes peace with the conspirators who just killed Caesar! I honestly have absolutely no idea what Antony was thinking. He basically implied "yes ,Caesar, I love you but now I'm going to be friends with the men who just murdered you. Oh, but don't be mad at me the only reason I want to be their friend is so I can understand why they killed you." That is why I don't believe we can be 100% sure that Antony was not a conspirator.
How do we know that Antony does not truly side with or support the conspirators? We know Antony does not truly support the conspirators because even after the murder he wanted to know and understand why. Also if he sided with them I highly doubt he would have wanted revenge on the conspirators.
With this being said I am still not sure whether or not Antony was a part of the conspiracy. The different actions and things he says confuses me and makes me wonder. Just when I start to be convinced of one thing he says something that makes me completely clueless of what he is and how he feels.

  9. (2) How does Antony react to Caesar's death? How do we know that Antony does not truly side with or support the conspirators?

I believe that Antony reacted really bad towards Caesar's death, yet he didn't want to show it or better yet didn't know how to. Though he did "join" the conspirators, throughout their whole conversation, he brought up that he always and will always love Caesar, and at a point defended Caesar. "Therefore I took your hands, but was indeed Swayed from the point by looking down on Caesar. Friends am i with you all and love you all, Upon this hope, that you shall give me reasons Why and wherein Caesar was dangerous (Shakespeare,109)." In this quote it shows his feelings towards Caesar's death AND how he wasn't in side with the conspirators. He states that although he is in peace with them , he feels as if it wasn't right that they had to kill Caesar, to him he did no harm to anyone. It sounds as he holds a grudge towards them because he is asking for a 'why' in all this. He wants to know why they did what they did and how come there was no other way out. And if he was to hold a grudge against them, then that shows that he isn't fully with on their side. I also believe that one of the reasons he joined them was to be able to give honor to his master, Caesar. In lines 280 through 300 shows another side of Caesar, compare to the one he shows to the conspirators, the side he had with Caesar. He begs Caesar for forgiveness for he doesn't mean to go against him, he just wants an answer to everything. He tells him sorry because he's not looking for justice yet, but rather treating them 'gentle', which shows that he's just being nice - for now. He calls out for a spell on them and calls them evil butchers, showing he's not with them. He's mad at the fact they had to take actions in their own hands, for which now this will all cause chaos and it was not fair. He is just with the conspirators to seek out justice for his fellow friend Caesar.

  11. Act III, Scene 1 pg.73 Lines148-163
Prompt 2)How does Antony react to Caesar's death? How do we know that Antony does not truly side with or support the conspirators?
Antony really shows that he somewhat doesnt care about Caesar's death. He's saying that all things that you've (Caesar) accomplished(goals, triumphs, etc) have ended in this little thing. He doesn't know why the conspirators killed Caeasar. He thought that he shed blood to be cured of an illness or unfortunately be killed. Who else is filled with disease or power. He's saying that there could have no other perfect time to kill Caesar (probably referring to the "ides of March" by the Soothsayer. No weapon is worth as half as much as yours (the conspirators) that is dripping with the most nobles blood in all of this world (Caesar's blood of course). He does ask however if they do hold a grudge against him now where they're hands are purpled with the blood of Caesar fulfill their pleasure. He could live a thousand years and not be so apt to die. The place of death will not please him. He ends his statement by cutting Caesar off by the master spirits of this age(era).
We know that Antony does not truly side with the conspirators because he does not congratulate them with a job well done or say anythign specifically of hatred toward Caeasar.

  12. 2)antony dosen't take caesar's death well but dosen't really show it even though he does claim a few times that he did love caesar but he does side with cassius but in hope that they tell him why they decided to kill caesar and for what.so you can say that he sided with them but not because he truly believed that killing caesar was the right thing to do for rome but because he believes that knowing what they are up to and just keeping them close is the right thing to do since he can not really do anything but look after octavius and wait for there next move.

  13. (2)How does Antony react to Ceasars death? How do we know that Antony does not truly side with or support the conspirators?
Antony's reaction towards Ceasars death was astonishing because when he met his body his reaction was surprising to know that his strong friend had fallen so low that it brought him down to death. He thought that all of Ceasar's hard work was not worth it.We know that Antony does not truly side with the conspirators because he begs them that if he ought to die then they should kill him at that point because there will be no better moment to be ready for death, no better way than this witch is being killed with the same sword that killed Ceasar, or no better place than this.He also said that the swords the conspirators used were the most valuable weapon becase it caried Ceasar's blood which he defined as the most noblest blood in the world. In a couple of words it will be an honor to die next to Ceasar.

  14. act 3 scene .......pg 69 caesars last monologue....im not sure what it truly means but imma try....caesar is saying he could be just like cassius, he could beg for others to change their minds, but he is as worty as the northern star they are not equal to one another(caesar stats that to cassius)hes basically saying hes better than everyon else..thats how he fell into his own death....it shows that he "cocky" and he feels he untouchable...Anthony is surprised by the death of caesar......we know he isn't really on the side of the conspirators because after the conversation with the conspirators he express his reasoning..

    (2) How does Antony react to Caesar's death? How do we know that Antony does not truly side with or support the conspirators?

Truly I dont know that Antony support them but on page 73 him brutus andCassius was talking about ceasar. So in my eyes he was on there side.He was very close to ceasar and said when he past. But he kinda knew what they were up to ,so why didnt he stop it . Antony had to take caesar body to the market . He didnt wont to do it or be a part of this. But ceasar well have his revenge to all of italy and the men that had betrayed him .

  16. Respons one
    (1) In the monologue that Caesar recites before being stabbed he said that he wishes that he can try and convince the conspirators to change their minds. And that if begging can be easy to do then people can easily change his mind and trick him. But Caesar says that he is like the Northern star and it will be more difficult to change his mind. This shows that Caesar rules with his mind and he will remain firm with the decisions he made and what others made. Caesar meet his death in the capital in front a crowed of Roman citizens and was stab in front of the people and killed in a public place. This shows about his character because he was naive because he did not suspect that his best friend would back stab him and kill him.

    (2) Antony shows that he did not care fore the death of his dearest friend Julius Caesar because he talks about how “Oh, mighty Caesar lies so low”. Antony also states that all of the accomplishments, conquests, glories, triumphs and achievements that he was able to do went to waste because the people of Rome still able to rebel from Caesar. Antony believes that the death of Caesar does not matter a much because there are many things to do in Rome and all of this shows the cause of noble blood and corruption. Antony dose not truly side with the conspirators because Antony thinks all what they did was the fact that killed a noble and the started a new era.

Question to group members- What does Antony means when he said in Act111 scene 1 that last page “According to which, thou shalt discourse To young Octaius of the state of things” Is Antony felling depress for Caesar death?

  17. (2) How does Antony react to Caesar's death? How do we know that Antony does not truly side with or support the conspirators?

Antony is upset that they did it but he doesn't seem angry. He seems really calm; Since he didn't go in rampage and just attacked them. His reaction was this "But Why Though ". Saying that Cesear was a good man he did so much good for Rome and you ruined it. He says he has grief. He doesn't side with conspirators he thinks that they are butchers and are fell "evil" . He doesn't support the conspirators he wishes the worst for them. He wishes that ATE and Cesear seek they're revenge and get what they deserve. He now believes because of the death of cesear everything will be in chaos and havoc will take its toll.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ms.Rozmiarek I truly don't understand the killing of him. Since all of the conspirators are talking calm with no anger. Until the end where they're just questioning and thats when it starts getting heated. Long story short who was the person who actually stabbed cesear ?

  19. Antony response was jaw droping about caesar death. He could not believe what his own friends had done to Caesar.Antony went along with the conspiracy so that he would not be killed like they did Caesar.

  20. All my Period 2 students:
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on posting (more or less!) by the correct time. Those of you who were a little late will only be penalized a little. Regarding Caesar's murder: Why is it important (TO THE CONSPIRATORS) that it is not crystal CLEAR WHO killed Caesar? Aother way to think about it is: What advantages do the conspirators have if ALL of them stab Caesar calmly and at the same time?

    ReplyDelete
  21. 2) Antony"s response to caesar's death was why caesar? Antony questioned the conspirators but cassius is so brutal he would have killed Mark Antony. He didn't want to get killed like his friend so he coincided with the conspirators to save his life. But now he is all wrapped up in the drama.
