Period 2: WEEK ONE

For Act Three, Scene One
Respond to ONE of the following two options no later than Sunday, December 27th.

(1) Describe the final monologue that Caesar recites before he is stabbed. (From "I could be well moved, if I were as you; If I could pray to move ..." Until: "That I was constant Cimber should be banished, And constant do remain to keep him so.") How does he go to meet his death? What does it show about his character?

(2) How does Antony react to Caesar's death? How do we know that Antony does not truly side with or support the conspirators?

Period 4: WEEK ONE

Chapters 3 & 4, The Scarlet Letter
Respond to ONE of the two prompts below by Friday, December 24th at 5pm.

(1) Consider the names of characters in this text. What importance or significance might you assume about them based on their names? Explain.

(2) How does Hawthorne create suspense in the third and fourth chapters? What seeds of foreboding or mystery has he planted?

Periods 5 & 6: WEEK ONE

Respond to ONE of the two options below no later than Friday, December 24th, at 5pm.

(1) Jesse makes an analogy between war and working as a defense attorney. Based on the text, how appropriate is this analogy? Do you see yourself more as the kind of person who would be a prosecution attorney or a defense attorney? Explain.

OR

(2) How do Persephone's sisters deal with her death? Why is the ritual they perform interesting or significant? What rituals or activities does your family participate in when someone you love passes away?
